Twenty-four boats made the trip north to the historic, tidal Potomac River.  Most of the "Dock Talk" noted a tougher than normal June bite but as always the case, someone finds the mother load.  Tommy "Top Gun" Hassler and James "The Rebel" Hiner took first place honors with five bass weighing 16.22 pounds.  They noted their winning pattern consisted of running down the Potomac into the bay and then locking in to the Shenandoah River where they fished Riverton most of the day.  Their key bites came on low tide and the ole "cricket hopper" was the bait of choice.  Second place went to Justin Puryear and Kevin Dellinger as they weighed five bass for 12.97 pounds.  Third place went to "Team Champion", Phil Crews and James Harner as they weighed five bass for 12.49 pounds.  Fourth place went to Ricky "The Marboro Man" Fulk and Jeff "The Pope" Lugar as they weighed five bass for 12.31 pounds.  And, fifth place went to Danny "Crankin'" Sherman and Kip "Buzz-a-nator" Hall as they weighed five bass for 12.26 pounds.  The next points tournament will be August 21, 2010 on the Rappahannock River.  However, the next tournament in July will be an "Open" Tournament taking place on the Potomac River July 24, 2010.  See ya there!

Twenty-two boats made the trip to the historic Potomac River for the last tournament of 2009 before the much anticipated "Classic".  Launching from Hope Springs Marina, anglers got to contend with the Potomac from the afternoon and evening hours, as launch was at 12:00 pm and weigh-in was at 8:15 pm.  The weather presented with some cloud cover and of course wind, which made fishing on the main river tough at times.  However, the team of Barry "The Sarge" Shrum and Andy "The Bounty Hunter" Bowman tackled the conditions and brought in a 16.62 pound limit enough for first place and a $540.00 payday.  In second place was the "Spiritual Connection" of Jeff Lugar and Ricky Fulk.  They weighed five fish for 13.99 pounds and received $240.00 for their finish.  Scott Falls and Jeff Olsen took third place with 10.79 pounds and collected $140.00.  However, they also took home the "Big Fish" Award worth an additional $210.00 for their 4.78 pound Potomac lunker.  Kip Hall and Danny Sherman took fourth place with five bass weighing 10.70 pounds and collected $80.00.  John Thompson and Carl Smith collected $50.00 for their fifth place finish of 10.25 pounds.  And, rounding out sixth place was Jeremy and Jerry Ryan as they weighed five bass for 9.82 pounds.  They received a gift certificate from our sponsor "Beavers Marine".  Next stop, the 2009 "Classic" on Buggs Island and Lake Gaston.  See ya there!

Twelve boats traveled to the Upper Chesapeake Bay, a tournament location that the majority of Extreme anglers had never fished.  Pre-tournament talk noted a very tough bite, with many anglers noting that one or two fish was a good day.  Launching at 6:00 a.m. from Anchor Marina, anglers had the oppurtunity to explore and fish the many rivers that feed into the massive Chesapeake Bay.  It was the longest tournament of the year, ten hours, in what can only be called "very, very, HOT" conditions with the temperature staying steady at 100 degrees.  However, it was the team of "CHIPS" also known as Ricky Miller and Ron McClelland that figured out the Chesapeake Bass, as they took first place with five bass weighing 9.59 pounds.  They collected $320.00 for their first place finish.  The 2009 points leaders, Jeff Lugar and Ricky Fulk, maintained their points lead and consistent fishing with a second place finish of five bass weighing 9.34 pounds.  They collected $170.00.  Melvin Fulk and Stacy Freeman continued making the points race tight, as they finished in third place with five bass weighing  9.29 pounds.  They collected $60.00.    Kip Hall and Danny Sherman received a "Gift Card" for their fourth place finish, as they weighed four bass for 8.70 pounds.  The "Big Fish" Award went to the team of Bobby and Joey Lineweaver as they weighed a 4.60 pound lunker worth $110.00.  Next stop:  Potomac River, see ya there!

Twenty boats made the road trip to the tidal Potomac River for the sixth stop on the 2009 tournament schedule.  The original tournament location was set for the Rappahannock River, however, due to high water and unsafe conditions, the tournament location was changed.  Anglers had to make the adjustment, and "Mr. Potomac" Melvin Bowling, certainly made the correct changes.  Melvin fished solo and weighed five fish for 17.59 pounds to take the first place victory worth $520.00.  His five fish limit was anchored by a 4.67 pound largemouth.  Second place went to the "Champion Boys", James Harner and Phil Crews.  Fishing from a borrowed boat, the boys weighed five bass for 15.83 pounds and collected $230.00.  Finishing in third place, was the 2009 Extreme Points leaders, Jeff Lugar and Ricky Fulk.  They weighed five bass for 15.30 pounds.  They collected $130.00.  In fourth place was the May 30, 2009 Potomac River champions, Melvin Fulk and Stacy Freeman, as they weighed five bass for 15.13 pounds.  They collected $70.00 for their finish.  And as always, they weighed in a nice lunker, tipping the scales at 6.53 pounds.  Fifth place went to Bobby and Joey Lineweaver, as they weighed five bass for 14.42 pounds.  They received a gift certificate from "Beaver's Marine".  The "Big Fish" Award went to the husband/wife duo of John and Deb McDougall.  They weighed a 7.09 pound pig worth $190.00.  Extreme will be off the month of July and will get into action in August with a first ever visit to the Upper Chesapeake Bay.  See ya there!

Twenty-five boats traveled to the tidal Potomac River for the fifth stop on the Extreme Bass Anglerz schedule.  Launching from Aquia Creek, anglers had the oppurtunity to fish the large expansive grass flats or venture onto the main river and in hunt of the motherload.  Melvin "Brauer" Fulk and Stacy Freeman found the motherload, weighing five fish for 17 pounds even, taking first place and collecting $580.00.  They also took the "Big Fish" Award worth an additional $250.00 for their 5.61 Potomac River chunk.  Finishing in second place and fishing solo, was Melvin "Van Dam" Bowling, as he weighed five bass for 16.21 pounds.  He collected $280.00.  Jeff "The Pope" Lugar and Ricky "The Rev" Fulk, trying to stay at the top of the points standings, finished in third place with five bass weighing 15.77 pounds.  They collected $160.00.  John Thompson and Carl Smith finished in fourth place, collecting $120.00, for their five fish limit weighing 12.31 pounds.  Fifth place went to Barry "The Sarge" Shrum and Andy "The Bounty Hunter" Bowman as they weighed five bass for 11.58 pounds.  They collected $60.00.  And rounding out sixth place was Tony Cooper, as he fished solo and weighed four bass for 10.66 pounds.  He received a Gift Certificate from Extreme Bass Anglerz sponsor, Beavers Marine.  There was no post tournament interview, as Melvin and Stacy were so happy from their victory, they jumping in the water and doing "cannon balls" off the docks.  Next stop, the Rappahannock River.  See ya there.

Seventeen boats traveled to Williamsburg, Virginia to challenge the Chickahominy and James Rivers.  Launching from beautiful Riverfront Park, anglers could choose to fish the James or Chickahominy River.  Pre-tournament "dock talk" noted most anglers were fishing the Chickahominy, with many anglers noting a tougher than normal bite.  However, Extreme Bass Anglerz veteran, Robert Deaver and his son Josh Deaver found the motherload, and took home their first Extreme Bass Anglerz victory.  They weighed five bass for 16.07 pounds and collected $430.00.  They noted that the Carolina Rigged critter craw in Junebug color was irresistable.  Melvin Fulk and Stacy Freeman took second place with five bass weighing 13.52 pounds.  They collected $210.00.  Barry "The Sarge" Shrum and Andy "The Bounty Hunter" Bowman took third place with five bass weighing 12.24 pounds.  They received $110.00 for their third place finish.  Bobby "The Bass Professor" Lineweaver and his son, Joey Lineweaver took fourth place with  five bass weighing 11.61 pounds.  They collected $50.00 for their fourth place finish.  And, receiving a gift certificate from "Beavers Marine" for their fifth place finish was the team of Jeff Lugar and Ricky Fulk.  They weighed five bass for 11.43 pounds.  The "Big Fish" Award went to Melvin Fulk and Stacy Freeman for their 5.52 pound toad.  Melvin noted he caught it on his trout rod (Signature Series Melvin Fulk Trout Master), 4lb test (unnamed line), and a Joe Fly.  Their lunker was worth $170.00.  Next stop, back to the ole Tidal Potomac River.  See ya there!

Twenty-five boats traveled back to Lake Anna for the third stop of the 2009 Extreme Bass Anglerz Schedule.  Most anglers expected big weights, but, the fishing was tough.  Many anglers thought it might be a "spawning" slug fest, but it seemed the ole lunkers had not decided to move shallow yet.  However, the team of Richard "Slim Jim" Ketterman and Greydon "Bon Fire" Bonser figured enough out to take first place with their five fish limit weighing 12.26 pounds.  They received $595.00 for their finish.  The "Lake Anna Posse", Kip Hall and Danny  Sherman, rebounded from their last tournament on Lake Anna to take second place with 12.13 pounds.  They received $295.00.  Third place went to Justin Puryear, who fished solo.  He weighed five bass for 12.10 pounds and received $170.00.  Fourth place went to the "spiritual advisors" of the club, Jeff Lugar and Ricky Fulk.  They weighed five bass for 11.70 pounds and received $125.00.  Fifth place went to Melvin "Brauer" Fulk and Stacy Freeman for their 11.12 pound sack.  They received $65.00.  And, sixth place went to Barry "The Sarge" Shrum and Andy "The Bounty Hunter" Bowman as they weighed five bass for 10.57 pounds.  They received a gift certificate from Beavers Marine.  The "Big Fish" Award went to the team of Robert and Josh Deaver, for their 5.43 pound largemouth.  The "Big Fish" was worth a nice pay day of $250.00.  Stop number four will be on the historic tidal waters of the Chickahominy and James Rivers.  See ya there!

Twenty-two boats traveled to the historic tidal Potomac River and Leesylvania State Park.  As is the case with all Extreme tournaments, weather was again "Extreme".  With the average wind speed being 20 - 25 mph and gusts up to 40 mph, the ole Potomac was a little choppy. However, the bass were biting.  Anglers had to contend with the 15 inch slot limit, but, the weather nor the slot effected Scott Falls and Jeff Olsen.  The "Nitro" boys weighed five fish for 17.50 pounds, enough to take the first place prize of $540.00.  Their sack was anchored by a 6.26 pound kicker.  Rick "The Nuge" Nugent and John Helfrich took second place with five bass weighing 16.20 pounds.  Their big fish weighed 5.05 pounds.  Third place went to the "Broadway Connection", Melvin Fulk and Stacy Freeman, as they weighed five bass for 16.12 pounds.  They collected $140.00 for their third place finish.  They also won the "Big Fish" Award for their 6.52 pound lunker which was worth an additional $210.00.  Ricky Fulk and Steve Pritt finished in fourth place with a five fish limit weighing 15.02 pounds.  They received $80.00 for their finish.  The 2008 Classic Champs, Kip Hall and Danny Sherman, finished in fifth place with five bass weighing 14.51 pounds.  They received $50.00 for their finish.  And rounding out the prize winners, 6th place with a total weight of 14.26 pounds went to Scott Shifflett and Joe Tebo.  They received a gift certificate from Beaver's Marine.  During the post tournament interview, Scott and Jeff noted their winning pattern consisted of throwing wacky rigged Pop-R's.  You gotta love it.  Next stop, Lake Anna.

Twenty-eight boats made the trip to beautiful Lake Anna for the first stop of Extreme Bass Anglerz's 2009 tournament season.  As usual, Extreme anglers were greeted with some challenging weather, 20 degree temperatures at launch and a heavy frost.  And, most anglers reported that ole Lake Anna was fishing tough.  The weigh in numbers supported how tough the fishing was, with only seven teams weighing in limits.  However, it was Team Lineweaver, the father and son dynamite duo that figured out those finicky bass and weighed five fish for 11.95 pounds, to claim first place and a $620.00 payday.  Their sack was anchored by a 3.97 pound lunker.  I call them the dynamite duo because word has it Joey was spotted dropping several sticks of dynamite in the water and Bobby had a net scooping em' up fast.  Second place went to the team of John Thompson and Carl Smith, as they weighed in four bass for 10.03 pounds.  They received $320.00 for their second place finish.  Another father and son duo, Robert and Josh Deaver weighed in five bass for 9.59 pounds, taking third place and collecting $190.00.  Fourth place, went to Jeff Lugar and Ricky Fulk, as they weighed five bass for 8.15 pounds.  They collected $140.00 for their fourth place finish.  Fifth place went to Barry  Shrum and Andy Bowman, as they weighed five bass for 7.65 pounds.  They received $80.00 for their finish.  Justin Puryear finished in sixth place with three bass weighing 6.44 pounds.  He received a gift certificate from our fine sponsor, Beaver's Marine.  The "Big Fish"Award went to Richard Ketterman, as he weighed in a 4.81 pound toad worth $270.00.  Next stop, the historic Potomac River, April 4, 2009.  See ya there.

Twenty boats made the trip to Huddleston, Virginia and Smith Mountain Lake for the 2008 Extreme Bass Anglerz "CLASSIC".  There were many story lines heading into the "Classic".  One, which team would figure out the two day pattern on Smith which was 4 feet below normal pool to take the coveted Classic title?  Two, which team would emerge as the 2008 "Extreme Bass Anglerz Team of the Year"?  Day One presented under winds and cloudy skies with the 2007 Classic Champs, James Harner and Phil Crews bringing in the largest sack, weighing 10.34 pounds.  Tommy Hassler took the "Big Fish Award" with his 4.27 pound largemouth which earned him $142.00.  Day Two was blue bird skies and wind, post cold front conditions.  With ultra clear water conditions, the ever consistent team of Kip Hall and Danny Sherman figured out those finicky Smith Mountain bass to weigh a two day total of 19.91 pounds, enough to win the 2008 Extreme Bass Anglerz Classic.  They collected a mere $915.00 for their first place finish and earned bragging rights for 2009.  Great job Kip and Danny our 2008 Classic Champs, you earned it baby!!!!  Going into Day 2, Melvin Bowling who was tied for 1st place in the standings with Jeff Lugar and Ricky Fulk found himself in 6th place, 3 places behind Lugar and Fulk.  However, the ole "Melvster" brought in the heaviest bag on Day 2, weighing 12.81 pounds, enough to take second place and earn him and his partner Leewood Davis the "2008 Extreme Bass Anglerz Team of the Year Award".  His bag was anchored by a 5.82 pound toad which earned the Day 2 "Big Fish Award" and $142.00.  His total weight for two days was 19.31 pounds.  Third place went to Jeff Lugar and Ricky Fulk, as their two day total tipped the scales at 18.92 pounds.  Fourth place, was James Harner and Phil Crews as they weighed a two day total for 16.51 pounds.  Fifth place went to Jon Engle and Nick Kight as they weighed a two day total for 13.86 pounds.  Door prizes were awarded from Beaver's Marine, Advance Auto Parts, Auto Zone, Mare Marine, and Gander Mountain.  Thanks to our sponsor rep, Bill Seal, for his hard work at getting our organization  fabulous door prizes and awards.  The 2008 Classic marked the end of the second full season of Extreme Bass Anglerz.  Look out 2009!  Take care, God Bless, and see you on the water!

Twenty-one boats traveled to Lake Anna for the final regular season tournament of 2008.  Rumors around Anna reported slow bites and tough fishing and the weights certainly showed such rumors were true.  Most teams caught limits of bass but the big bags of bucketmouths were not present.  However, Kip Hall and Danny Sherman continued their consistent fishing of 2008 with a five fish limit weighing 10.37 pounds, enough for first place and a $480.00 payday.  They noted culling fish at 8:00 a.m.  They wouldn't reveal their pattern, but chase boats noted both anglers were employing the ole float -n- fly method.  Jeff Lugar and Ricky Fulk continue their chase for the Team of the Year title, as they weighed five fish for 9.92 pounds and collected $240.00 for their efforts.  Jeff Olsen and Scott Falls collected $80.00 for their third place finish, weighing five bass for 9.85 pounds.  Earning a gift certicate from Extreme Bass Anglerz sponsor "Beavers Marine" for their fourth place finish was the team of Melvin Bowling and Leewood Davis as they try and maintain their points lead in the 2008 standings.  They weighed five bass for 9.65 pounds.  The "Big Fish Award" went to Robert Deaver and his 5.17 pound pig, which earned him $210.00.  The final stop on the trail is the 2008 CLASSIC on beautiful Smith Mountain Lake, October 18th and 19th.  See you there!

Twenty boats traveled to the Tidal Potomac River, launching under calm conditions and blue bird skies from Leesylvania State Park in Woodbridge, VA.  The recent "Dock Talk" noted many anglers reporting tough fishing conditions on the Potomac.  However, as I've said many times before, NEVER believe it!  Many Extreme anglers weighed in nice bags of fish, as it took ten pounds to finish in 11th place.  Current 2008 Extreme Points leader, Melvin "VanDam" Bowling, weighed an impressive bag of tidal bucketmouths, claiming first place for his 13.60 pound stringer.  Melvin's five fish limit was anchored by a 4.02 pound largemouth.  Melvin collected $532.00 for his first place finish.  Melvin and partner Leewood, swept the Potomac tournaments this year, winning the Spring tournament in April as well.  Jeff Lugar and Ricky Fulk, currently second in the 2008 Extreme Points Standings, finished in second place, weighing five bass for 12.34 pounds.  Their stringer was anchored by a 3.11 pound largemouth.  The Pope and Reverend collected a nice $228.00 for their finish.  Third place went to John Thompson, as his five fish limit weighed 12.30 pounds.  He received a gift certificate from Beaver's Marine in Winchester, VA.  However, John also took the "Big Fish" Award, with a lunker that weighed 4.93 pounds.  He received $190.00 for the lunker.  Dynamite, cricket hoppers, and Carolina rigged swimbaits were all noted to be successful lures/techniques.  A gift certificate from Advance Auto Parts was also given away.  Next stop:  Lake Anna.  See you on the water.

Twenty-one boats traveled to Fredericksburg, Virginia in an attempt to conquer the tidal Rappahannock River.  Launching from the City Docks, anglers were soon greeted by thunderstorms, heavy rains, and wind.  However, as the afternoon approached, the skies cleared, and the sun began to beat down, with temps in the mid 90's.  The Rapp produced a lot of numbers, but the big ones were far and few between.  However, Wayne Crickenberger, found the big ones, weighing in an impressive sack of bass for 12.81 pounds.  This was enough for his first Extreme Bass Anglerz victory, claiming $480.00 for his first place finish.  Wayne's sack was anchored by a 5.51 pound lunker, which took the "Big Fish" Award worth $200.00.  Wayne's total payday was $680.00, a mere $76.00 per hour fishing.  Second place went to Melvin Bowling and Leewood Davis, as they weighed five bass for 11.54 pounds worth $240.00.  Their big fish weighed 3.49 pounds.  Third place went to Rick Mantz and Daniel Golladay, as they weighed five bass for 10.77 pounds worth $80.00.  Their big fish tipped the scales at 4.22 pounds.  Fourth place went to Bobby and Joey Lineweaver, as they weighed five bass for 10.55 pounds.  They received a gift certificate from Beaver's Marine.  Wayne noted his key to victory was all the advice and wisdom his travel partner Mr. Deaver gives him.  Wayne was last seen fleeing the parking lot with his $$ and Robert chasing him.  Next stop, the Potomac River on August 23, 2008.

Extreme Bass Anglerz introduced the "LUCKY 13 SHOOTOUT" in which the Top 10 teams in the points standings along with three other teams not in the top 10 in points that qualified through the Egypt Bend Qualifier were invited to Riverton, Virginia to fish a no entry fee, Winner Take All, tournament.  The purse, a nice $500.00, for the team finishing in first place.  Most anglers were predicting at least 10 pounds if not 12 pounds to take first place.  However, such predictions were proven wrong.  Anglers contended with the 11 to 14 inch slot limit with several teams weighing in fish over 14 inches.  But, the sacks of five fish over 14 inches were not seen.  Most anglers noted catching numbers of bass, but finding the fish over 14 inches proved to be a tough and pain taking task.  The team of Jeremy and Jerry Ryan captured the biggest bass of the day, weighing 3.68 pounds, as they collected $130.00 for the "Big Fish Award".  However, it was the team of Jeff Lugar and Ricky Fulk, who claimed first place and captured the victory of the Shootout, as they weighed five fish for 6.11 pounds.  Their limit was anchored by a 2.61 pound largemouth.  They collected a cool $500.00 for their finish and noted they would be donating their money to church missions in Asia.  Extreme will be off the month of July and then will have two points tournaments in August, first at the Rapp and then at the mighty Potomac.  See you there.

Seventeen boats made the three hour plus road trip to Williamsburg, Virginia,  for the fifth stop on the tournament trail.  And of course, we couldn't have "fair" weather, no indeed.  Yes, Extreme conditions once more.  With the air temp around 85 degrees at 5:00 a.m. with about 100% humidity, anglers fished on the very hot James River and Chickahminy River with temps as high as 108 degrees.  Water temps ranged from 84 degrees to 87 degrees.  Needless to say, there was lots of water consumption by our anglers while the bass were in heat shock.  Many anglers reported a slow bite, while some anglers reported catching numbers of bass.  The team of Ricky "The Rev" Fulk and Jeff "The Pope" Lugar, continued their winning ways on the James & Chick, as they weighed in a five fish limit for 11.53 pounds to claim first place and a $448.00 payday.  Scott Falls and Jeff Olsen finished second, weighing five fish for 10.38 pounds.  They collected $192.00 for their second place finish.  They also won the "Big Fish Award" for their 4.17 pound largemouth, which netted them an additional $170.00.  Third place went to the reigning Extreme Bass Anglerz "Team of the Year", Melvin Bowling and Leewood Davis.  They weighed in five bass for 10.17 pounds.  They received a gift certificate from Beaver's Marine.  During the post tournament interview, Ricky and Jeff said their winning stringer had nothing to due with a certain pattern or secret lure, but, more to do with their pep talk from the tournament director the night before the tournament in regards to religion & nicknames.  Gift certifcates were given away from Advance Auto Parts and Auto Zone (Woodstock).  The points series takes a break until August, however, anglers are getting ready for the much anticipated "LUCKY 13  SHOOTOUT" on June 22, 2008.

Twenty-four teams made the road trip to Lake Anna and unlike past Extreme Lake Anna tournaments, there was no snow or rain.  However, there was wind and lots of it.  Most anglers noted a tough bite, as most fish were in post spawn patterns, with a few fish still on beds.  And, the lake had been pounded from weekend tournaments, so anglers had to work for their bites.  The team of Jeremy Ryan and Jerry "New Knees" Ryan found the fish, weighing in five bass for 16.03 pounds, taking first place by over four pounds.  They collected a handsome $552.00 payday.  They also won the "Big Fish" Award, as their lunker weighed 4.89 pounds which increased their earnings by an additional $230.00.  Jeff Olsen and Scott Falls continued their consistent fishing on Lake Anna, as their five fish limit weighed 11.85 pounds, enough for second place and a $276.00 payday.  Kip Hall and Danny Sherman, finished in the top three for the second tournament in a row, as their five fish limit weighed 11.82 pounds, earning them a third place finish and $92.00 in prize money.  Melvin Fulk and Bryan Conley, placed fourth, winning a gift certificate from Beavers Marine, for their 10.82 pound limit.  Extreme would lake to thank Anna Point Marina for their hospitality and facilities.  Door prizes were given away from Auto Zone (Woodstock, VA).  Next stop, the historic Chickahominy and James River.

Twenty-seven teams made the trip to Woodbridge, Virginia for the 3rd stop of the season on the famous Potomac River.  Anglers launched from Leesylvania State Park under clear skies.  However, as the day progressed, the clear skies turned cloudy, with some areas of the river getting heavy thunderstorms.  The wind picked up, with gusts of 30 + miles per hour, and to say the least, the ole Potomac got rough and the ride back made for some fun and wet rides.  The team of Melvin "Van Dam" Bowling and Leewood "Clunn" Davis continued their winning ways on the Potomac as they took first place with a sack of Potomac River largemouths that weighed 15.17 pounds.  They collected $624.00 for their first place finish.  Second place went to the "Triton Boys", Ricky "The Reverend" Fulk and Jeff Lugar, as they weighed in five fish for 14.88 pounds.  They collected $312.00 for their finish.  The "Lake Anna Posse", Kip Hall and Danny Sherman, weighed in a five fish limit that tipped the scales at 13.73 pounds which was enough to claim third place and a $104.00 pay day.  Jeff Olsen and Scott Falls made their first appearence of the 2008 season, as they placed fourth, with five bass weighing 13.00 pounds.  They received a gift certificate from Beavers Marine.  The team of Gary and Chris Comer weighed in a nice 5.35 pound largemouth to take the "Big Fish" Award which earned them $260.00.   Many four and three pound largemouths were weighed in by the talented Extreme anglers!  As always, Melvin and Leewood was tight lipped about their winning patterns, but many anglers noticed Joe Flies in their Triton.  Who knows?  Extreme would like to thank our great sponsors who provided gift certificates and door prizes:  Beavers Marine, Advance Auto Parts (Woodstock), and Auto Zone (Woodstock).  Next stop:  Lake Anna, see you there!!!!!!!!!!!!

On March 30, 2008, twenty-one teams made the short road trip from South Hill, Virginia to Bracey, Virginia to take on Lake Gaston.  Launching from Holly Grove Marina, anglers launched during a "COLD" front weather system.  And, like many of our tournaments, "Extreme Conditions" could sum up the next eight hours of fishing.  Rain, Rain, and more Rain!  All, and cold air temperatures, ranging from the high 30's to low 40's.  You gotta love it baby.  And, there had been several 50 plus boat tournaments held on the lake the previous day, making the ole bass a little "gun shy".  However, our anglers showed that they can catch em' under tough conditions, none more than the team of Melvin "Denny Brauer" Fulk and Brian Conley.  The Broadway Boys five fish limit weighed 16.68 pounds, beating the 2nd place team by six pounds.  Their first place finish earned them $480.00.  Second Place went to the 2007 Extreme Bass Anglerz "Team of the Year", Melvin Bowling and Leewood Davis, as their five fish limit weighed 10.60 pounds worth $240.00.  Third place went to "Team Stratos", Corey Carter and Mark Clatterbuck.  Their five fish limit weighed 9.28 pounds worth $80.00.  Earning a gift certificate from Beavers Marine for their fourth place finish was the team of Ricky "The Reverend" Fulk and Jeff Lugar, as they weighed in four fish for 9.09 pounds.  The $200.00 "Big Fish Award" went to the team of Rick Nugent and John Helfrich, as they weighed in a nice Lake Gaston bucketmouth that tipped the scales at 6.44 pounds.  During the post tournament interview, the winning team of Melvin Fulk and Brian Conley noted that their key bait was texas rigged Pop-R's skipped under docks.  Extreme wants to thank the great anglers that make this club a success.  Thanks to our wonderful 2008 sponsors.  Next stop, the famous Potomac River.

What a way to start the 2008 season, than fishing two of the best lakes in Virginia?  On March 29, 2008,  twenty-one teams made the four hour road trip to Buggs Island in Boydton, Virginia.  Many of the anglers that had pre-fished the lake during the week, had great 70 plus degree weather.  However, the morning of the tournament, anglers were greeted with temperatures in the mid 40's, winds, and rain showers.  The winds made for some rough boat rides.  Tough conditions to say the least.  However, the 2007 Extreme Bass Anglerz "Classic Champions", Phil Crews and James Harner, weighed in a five fish limit of largemouths, tipping the scales at 15.56 pounds for the first place prize of $480.00.  Their sack was anchored by a 5.37 pound toad.  Second place went to Bill "The Real Deal" Seal and Andy "Wild Man" Bowman, as they weighed in a five fish limit for 14.16 pounds worth $240.00.  Their big fish weighed 3.98 pounds.   Mike Dinges and Chris Baker put their new Nitro to the test, taking third place, with a five fish limit that weighed 13.97 pounds worth $80.00.  Claiming fourth place and a gift certificate to Beavers Marine was the team of Melvin Fulk and Brian Conley as they weighed in four fish that tipped the scales at 10.40 pounds.  The $200 "Big Fish Award" went to the team of James Hiner and Tommy Hassler, as their big bucketmouth weighed 5.58 pounds.  Extreme wants to thank Beavers Marine for their support and all of our other 2008 sponsors.  Next stop, Lake Gaston.

The Potomac River is noted as one of the top bass fisheries in North America, as the Bassmaster Elite Series and FLW Tour frequent it on almost a yearly basis.  The anglers fishing the "Tidal Bash" noted either a love it or hate it attitute towards the tidal river.  Some anglers reported catching as many as 50 bass, however, the 15 inch slot limit as well as a tournament going out with 200 boats certainly made conditions a little tougher and crowded on the massive river system.  In total, 22 boats took on the mighty Potomac.  However, the team of Melvin Bowling and Leewood Davis weighed in an impressive sack of bucketmouths, totaling 20.84 pounds and collecting $528.00 for their first place finish.  If your name was Melvin, it was a good day, as the team of Melvin Fulk and Brian Conley took home second place, weighing in five bass totaling 19.89 pounds and collecting $264.00 for their efforts.  Third place went to the team of John Thompson and Mike King, as they weighed in five bass totaling 17.81 pounds and collecting $88.00 for their finish.  The ole Triton Boys also took home the "Big Bass" award, as they weighed in 5.92 pound hog worth $220.00.  Fourth Place went to the father-son duo of Jeremy Ryan and Jerry Ryan, as they weighed in a five fish limit totaling 14.01 pounds.  They received a gift certificate from Beaver's Marine.  Also weighing in some "Toads" were the team of Melvin Bowling and Leewood Davis as their big bass weighed 5.36 pounds.  Chris Cubbage weighed his big bass totaling 5.34 pounds and Melvin Fulk and Brian Conley's big bass totaled 5.14 pounds.  Many 3 and 4 pounders were brought to the scales.  Door prizes was given out to teams not winning money from Pap's Past Times, Advance Auto Parts (Woodstock, VA), Auto Zone (Woodstock, VA) as well as a gift basket from June B. The "Battle of the Bend II" was the first tournament of the year with pleasant weather conditions.  However, due to recent rains, the ole Bend was still a little high and colored.  We had 24 boats challenge the Bend, as well as the 14 to 20 inch slot limit, which makes fishing even tougher.  The team of David Lucas and L.W. Hensley took home the first place prize of $576.00 with a five fish limit weighing in at 6.78 pounds.  During an on the water interview (location must remain un-named but it was somewhere mid-lake) with the tournament director, the ole boys stated they had "just some little dinks".  Never trust a fisherman, as the ole "Sand Baggers" whacked em' today, noting their pattern consisted of dipping their watermelon tubes in Copenhagen to add scent and a sparkle color.  Reverend Ricky Fulk and Jeff Lugar placed second cashing in on $288.00 with their five fish limit weighing 6.26 pounds.  The boys are tight lipped during interviews, but we have to believe it is the intense spiritual awareness of Mr. Fulk that brings them closer to nature and able to figure the patterns out.  Third place went to Leewood Davis, fishing solo, as he weighed in a five fish limit totaling 5.98 pounds, worth $96.00.  All Leewood would disclose during the interview was that his key bites were on a sunken barge, mid lake, using 50lb test braid and a cricket hopper.  Ashley Burnett finished fourth with a five fish limit weighing 5.94 pounds.  He recieved a gift certificate from Beavers Marine.  Big Fish honors went to the team of Jeremy and Jerry Ryan, as they weighed in a 1.79 pound pig, which earned them $240.00.  Door prizes were given away from Pap's Past Times, Advance Auto (Woodstock, VA), and Auto Zone (Woodstock, VA).  Next stop, one of the nations best fisheries, the Tidal Potomac River.

When I named the club "Extreme Bass Anglerz" I had no idea how true the name would be.  Our club meeting in February was cancelled due to snow.  Our first tournament at Egypt Bend was cancelled due to snow and ice.  And, when we finally fished, we had flood like conditions and chocolate milk water.  So, when we awoke to falling snow and temperatures in the teens, it was no surprise after a week of temperatures in the 80's.  But, 19 teams braved the snow at Lake Anna, with 12 teams weighing limits.  Jeff Olson and Scott Falls took home the first place prize of $532.00, with a five fish limit weighing 14.93 pounds.  That impressive sack was filled by a 5.51 pound lunker largemouth, worth $210.00. Jeff noted their key baits were carolina rigging junebug colored jitterbugs on rocky points.  Second place went to the "Triton Boys", Jeremy Ryan and Jerry Ryan, as they weighed in 5 bass for 12.83 pounds, worth $228.00.  Jeremy says most of his bites were on black and blue jigs with a dough ball trailer.  Third place went to Melvin Bowling and Leewood Davis, as they weighed in five bass for 12.04 pounds. They recieved a gift certificate from Beaver's Marine for their efforts.  Melvin was close lipped during the interview but Leewood was overheard saying their key baits were hand poured plastics imitating shrimp and crab, thrown in 50 feet of water.  The second big fish award, went to James Harner and Phil Crews, as they weighed in a 5.04 pound pig, worth $190.00.  Gift certificates were given from Advance Auto (Woodstock, VA), Pap's Past Times, Auto Zone (Woodstock, VA), and June. B. Davis.  Thanks to all of the teams as well as Sturgeon Creek Marina for hosting Extreme.  In total, 85 bass were caught, with only one dead fish.  Yes, it was the director's, as it was so shocked I caught it in my ongoing fishing slump that it went belly up and died.   See everyone at the "Battle of the Bend 2"!  Watch the weather!!!!!!!

Twenty one teams took on the infamous Egypt Bend on March 31, 2007 to find high, muddy "chocolate milk" colored water thanks to heavy rains south of Luray.  Thus, anglers had to adapt from their prefishing patterns.  However, the team of Jeff Olson and Scott Falls did just that, weighing in a five fish limit of 5.49 pounds and collecting $504.00 for their efforts.  In the post tournament interview, Jeff noted they utilized a "cinderblock" pattern, as they did not have their anchor and had to use a cinderblock in the swift water upstream.  You can just call Jeff the "MacGyver" of the tournament trail.  Their key bait was throwing custom made crankbaits made by Mr. Olsen himself.  Great job.  Second place went to the veteran anglers and father son duo of Bobby Lineweaver and Joey Lineweaver.  They weighed in five fish for 5.32 pounds, collecting $252.00.  A spy camera noted they spent the majority of their time down river, however, at press time, they were unavailable for comment.  Third place went to Leewood Davis, weighing in five bass for 5.25 pounds and collecting $84.00.  Due to sponsorship obligations, he was unavailable for comment as he was going to Luray National Airport to fly to a seminar on Lake El Sato.  Many anglers noted a tough bite as conditions changed rapidly from the week before.   In total, 68 bass were weighed in and released alive.  Nine teams weighed in limits.   Gift certificates and prizes were also given to anglers from Beaver's Marine, Pap's Past Times, Advance Auto Parts(Woodstock, VA),  AutoZone (Woodstock, VA), and a gift basket from June Davis.  Next stop will be at Lake Anna.
